Holiday Time in Sticks Land!

We currently have a nice selection of Sticks items for your holiday gift giving and home decor. Holiday decor items include standard ornaments, plus collectable 2007 ornaments, several snowmen and Santa, Angels (year-round -everyone needs a year-round Angel!) and Sarah Grant Hutchison's new children's book.  We also have plaques in various sizes, picture frame mirrors  and small standard mirrors. Iowa-based STICKS makes a wide range of heirloom-quality furniture painted in bright colors and incorporating text. It is the ultimate in family-friendly art. Each STICKS piece is a little bit different, but incorporates themes and icons from a list the group has put together. There are also several color families.

The process involves constructing the furniture from scratch out of regulation lumber, and then a sequence of drawing, wood burning, staining and painting the designs. Last come the final touches such as hand painted knobs and a final coat of polyurethane. Designs are derived from a series of themes, icons and color palettes that galleries or clients may choose from, making STICKS furniture easily customized. Customers can also add their own text or image ideas to custom orders.Because of their ability to deliver joyful, custom-designed pieces, STICKS furniture has become a national phenomenon. Founder Sarah Grant-Hutchison, the creative mastermind behind the decoration, is a Des Moines resident and a graduate of the University of Iowa.

Iowa Artisans Gallery features the work of STICKS and arranges special orders of works not currently in our inventory. Special orders allow you to incorporate family information, pictures of your dogs, or color matches to existing decor. Our in-house STICKS consultant is Deb Tunwall; her background as an interior design consultant and color expert makes her a great asset when putting together an order. If you are located close enough to Iowa Artisans Gallery to view the STICKS display books in person, please consider doing so. If not, we can forward you images that will help illustrate different possibilities for special order work. Rather than telling us you like everything, let us know specific items you are interested in (mirrors, coffee tables, boxes, an armoire, for example.) That will help us narrow the search.
