Recognized
as one of the finest craftsmen in his field, Craig Zweifel
has produced a body of work that has been exhibited internationally
and can be found in celebrated private and public collections,
including those of two US presidents and the Smithsonian Institution.
Every piece is a valued collector's item, distinctive in its
design and iridescence.
Craig
Zweifel began working with glass under Dr. Robert Fritz at
San Jose State College in 1966 and received a BA in ceramics
in 1969. That summer he built his first studio in Jackson
Hole, Wyoming. Returning to California in 1972, he studied
at UCLA and received his MA in Glass Design.
Zweifel
Art Glass is hand-blown by Craig Zweifel in his Oregon studio. Each piece is
individually blown by the artist, and signed and dated on
completion. Craig's wife Anny, a former jeweler, now helps with the faceting and polishing of the glass. No molds or machines are used in the creative
process. The distinctive iridescent colors are the result
of Zweifel's unique process, which fuses crystalline silver
onto the surface of the molten glass. The satin colors are
caused by light reacting to the texture of microscopic silver
crystals fused to the surface of his glass. Zweifel's work is featured in many fine galleries across the United States. Zweifel Art Glass has been presented to two U.S. Presidents, and a special, one-of-a-kind perfume bottle was presented to former President and Mrs. Gorbachev of Russia.
