"I
strongly feel that my work should be handled and used. Touch
is an important part of it," Christiane notes while cradling
one of her distinctive mugs filled with warm coffee. "My
pots are not serious pots; they are meant to be a playful,
joyous part of daily life." Her work has an intimate context,
which means they fit in with family and personal life.
"Even
though I started making pottery in this country, I am deeply
influenced by what I've seen in Europe." Her European cultural
roots have intermingled with her many years of American
residence. The result is a unique approach to decorative
surface and form."
Currently
a resident of Iowa City, Christiane Knorr is a founding member
of Iowa Artisans Gallery. She
is presently retired from full-time pottery production work.
