Maggie Bokor, Maine

One of Iowa Artisans Gallery's newer artists, Maggie Bokor is known for her organic elegant jewelry. Working with silver in a “clay-like” state, Bokor creates all of her original designs with malleable fine silver called Art Clay®. This unique metal allows Bokor to focus on surface and detail with the hands of a sculptor. Most of her pieces are then cast in sterling silver to create a unified collection. Using patinas allows her to accentuate the depth in her designs, while pieces left untouched simply sparkle and shine. The finest fresh water pearls, semi-precious and precious stones to give each piece a distinct personality.

A ceramics graduate from the Rhode Island School of Design, Maggie Bokor utilizes clay techniques and tools with her metalsmithing experience she has cultivated through the years. Since the organic, repeating shapes found in nature have always intrigued her, Bokor finds inspiration in exploring the natural world around her. The veining of a leaf, the twist and turns of a woodland creek and the soft round sphere of the moon reflected in tiny raindrops on a still pond find their way into her work.

When Maggie Bokor is out of the studio, you can find her deep in the woods, walking along the rocky coast of Maine or visiting the marshes of Cape Cod with her dog, Sam. In addition, she has family here in Iowa.
