Joline El Hai, Bella Luz - Seattle, Washington

The imagery in Bella Luz: Designs with Light can be seen as whimsical little snippets of magical dream-like stories. The inspiration for Bella Luz stems from her love of color and light and her background in glass painting. The luminettes (her version of night lights) and wall sconces start out as drawings... pastel, colored pencil, and watercolor crayon on paper. The drawings are photographed and transformed into color transparencies, which are then set into handsome metal frames.

The luminettes are tiny works of art which cast a warm and useful glow. They come in frames of hand-textured and patinaed copper with a 4-watt nightlight bulb, ready to plug in. A hand-hammered copper swirl dangle is an optional embelishment to the luminettes, hanging off the middle hole at the bottom of the luminette frame, disguising the night light switch and mirroring the etched swirl at the top of each frame.
