Patty Sargent Housby - Housby Glass

"Glass intrigues me because it is a vibrant medium with the potential for dramatic contrasts. It can be bold or subtle, opaque or transparent. Glass can be rigid or flexible, solid or fluid all packaged in a vast spectrum of colors. Light also plays a dynamic role in defining a glass piece, and literally makes it come alive.

My finished glass pieces start by cutting and combining layers of glass, then firing in a kiln which reaches up to 1450 degrees and beyond. Pieces are fired multiple times along with using tools such as a sandblaster, grinder and tile saw to achieve the desired design.
Glass mystifies me, inspires me and sometimes even frustrates me, but it is a remarkable medium through which I am able to create and express my visions. Every piece of Housby Glass is uniquely designed and is both a decorative and functional piece of art."

Patty Sargent Housby studied kiln-formed glass under Lisa Becker in St. Charles, Missouri and established her studio in 2011. She is a resident of Des Moines, Iowa.
