Peet Robison - Missouri

Peet Robison has been making glass for more than 35 years and was one of the first students at the now world-renowned Pilchuk Glass Center in Seattle. His teachers include many seminal figures in the burgeoning glass movement of the 1970s. His beautifully conceived work is lumious under light but also richly surfaced in daylight. Our customers love his work.

A native of the Kansas City area, Robison was first introduced to glass in 1971 by Ken Ferguson, the former head of the ceramics department at the Kansas City Art Institute. In 1972, Robison collaborated with Dale Chihuly and Dan Dailey at the Rhode Island School of Design, and returned to Pilchuck that summer as a teaching assistant. In addition, Robison earned his BFA in Ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute that same year. As Henry Halem's graduate assistant at Kent State University from 1974 to 1976, Robison participated in several workshops with renowned artists Paul Marioni, Bertil Vallien, Joel P. Myers and Fritz Dreisbach. After completing his MA in Glass from Kent State University in 1976, Robison and his wife Susan moved to Santa Fe, NM where they lived for almost thirty years. In recent years, they moved back to the Kansas City area.

The tree imagery on his landscape series is formed by applying a molten thread of a silver-reactive glass. Chips and shards of the same glass are skillfully added during the "dance" as the piece takes its final shape.

Robison's unique Sunrise and Sunset landscape vases were inspired by the remarkable Santa Fe skies, while his innovative Mallard Bay landscape vases are largely influenced by the brilliant lake colors just outside his current home.

Over the years, Robison has developed his own techniques, tools, and equipment which have given him the freedom to work as an independent artist. He continues to enjoy the challenge of designing and producing glass inspired by the natural landscapes around him.
